Benson Chandler Simmons (Ben), 71 of Fredonia, Alabama passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, peacefully at his home. Ben was born on December 9, 1949, in Langdale, Alabama to the late Dr. and Mrs. Shelton Coleman Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents Coleman and Elizabeth Simmons and his sister Sallie Simmons Fravel. He is survived by his best friend and wife Lucy Simmons; daughter Charity Simmons of Fredonia, AL; grandchildren Ina and Asa Crenshaw; son in law Scott Crenshaw of Five Points, AL; his brother Dr. Shelton Simmons (Becky) of Cockeysville, MD; brother in law Bill Fravel (Sallie) of Chapin, SC; brothers in law Bubber House of Lickskillet, GA; Bud House of Valley, AL and Bobby House of Valley, AL; sister in law Becky House Tolar (Sonny) of Dothan, AL; special cousins Mary Neely Moak (Tom) of Atlanta and Susan Simmons Pitts (Alton) of West Point, GA; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Ben was passionate about gardening, discussing politics and philosophies of life, playing and listening to music, and sharing good times with family and friends. He lived life to the fullest daily and took the positive out of every life experience. He lived to learn, spread kindness, share ideas and laughter, and be the best human he could be.
Ben was genuine and compassionate, possessing an open and accepting spirit evidenced by the numerous diverse friendships he enjoyed over the years. He represented a life lived to embrace differences, reject conformity, and chase dreams.
