Chambers County Reciepent Of Nearly Half A Million Grant For Roads & Bridges
Story by Gator Kincaid

CHAMBERS COUNTY- On Monday, Chambers County Engineer Josh Harvill addressed the Chambers Commission regarding an update on the construction of the 155 foot-bridge on CR 02, Bridge 87 over Norfolk Southern RR in Waverly, as well as the Phillips Road project in Huguley.
Both projects are being funded by the Local Roads Safety Initiative Grant which Chambers County received $466,611 out of 5 million the state of Alabama was the beneficiary of. The county will then put in a 10% match, which comes to $51, 845.67. Those grants will also be able to fund other projects shortly.
"On October 21, the final Truss was Set, and If everything goes as planned, the contractor’s portion of the work should be completed in November 2022. We plan to begin the County’s portion of the approach work within the next 3 weeks", said Harvill in an email to the Chambers Ledger.
As far as the Phillips Road project, Harvill addressed that as well.

"Right now as long as mother nature cooperates we are looking at buttoning up Phillips Road to Chambers County Road 299 East. Currently, we are widening the road, and laying pipes down. A complete asphalt will follow, but as you know this kind of project can be lengthy", addedHarvill.
Traffic has moved much faster through that portion of Phillips Road near 4 Seasons Heating & Air, and Farmers & Merchants Bank, which many motorists can testify to.
