Chambers Republican Party Host Sheriff's Forum

LAFAYETTE- On Thursday, the Chambers Republican Party hosted a sheriff's forum from the ALFA building in Lafayette ahead of next Tuesday's primary that included candidates Jeff Nelson, Richard Carter, and Jeff Blackstone. Nelson, and Carter will be on the ballot for the Republican Primary, while Blackstone the Democrat will run unopposed until November's general election.


The forum was moderated by Chambers County District Judge Calvin Milford.


Candidates were given two minutes to speak to introduce themselves to the voters, and to discuss any aspects that they would like the voters to be famailiar with.


Blackstone is a seventeen year veteran of the Chambers County Sheriff's office, and has six children as well as multiple grandchildren.


Carter, who as served for over 32 years in law enforcement in Chambers County. Fifteen of those years with the Chambers County Sheriff's Department, and thirteen as Chief Deputy.


Nelson, a recently State Trooper for over twenty five years in Chambers County, ABI agent. working homicides, officer involved shootings, governors bodyguard, and norcoctics.


Candidates were given a series of randomly selected questions ranging from deputy salaries, loss of revenue due to constutional carry, and concerns with current sheriff's department.


Voters will head to the polls on May 24th, in the Republican Primary, and again in November.
