Eberne Myrthil Named New VHS Girls Basketball Coach

On Wednesday, June 28th, the Chambers County Board of Education approved Coach Eberne Myrthil as the new Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for Valley High School. Coach Myrthil is a veteran coach whose resume and experience separated him from numerous candidates for the vacancy. boy's
Coach Myrthil spent last season coaching the Varsity Boys Basketball team at Class 5A Holtville High School in Elmore County where he taught history. His boys varsity team at Holtville posted an overall record of 15-15 last season competing in Class 5A. During his twelve-year career coaching in the AHSAA, Coach
Myrthil coached both the varsity football team and the varsity boys basketball team at Marengo High School. He was honored by the AHSAA in 2017 as the Class 1A Football Coach of the Year. Coach Myrthil also served as the school’s athletic director for seven years while coaching multiple sports at Marengo High School. During his tenure at Marengo, Coach Myrthil also pastored a church in the Alberta community for five years.
Before, his tenure at Marengo County High School, Coach Myrthil served as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Class 4A Clark County High School where his team captured the Area Championship in 2014 with an overall record of 18-13. The opportunity for growth saw Coach Myrthil move up to the role of head coach at Marengo High School in 2014 as his reason for leaving Clark County. Before his stint at Clark County High School, Coach Myrthil taught and coached at Choctaw County High School. His role at Choctaw County H.S. saw him serve in multiple capacities where he was the Athletic Director, Head Football Coach, Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and Head Baseball Coach. His boy's varsity basketball team at Choctaw County captured the Class 2A Area Championship and posted an overall 27-15 record. Coach Myrthil moved from Choctaw County High School in 2013 after the school burned in a fire that caused a big drop in enrollment.
Coach Eberne Myrthil notes in his persona coaching philosophy that “a good coach can change a game, a great coach can change a life.” Coach Myrthil’s references were outstanding from multiple sources. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Alabama where he was a walk-on safety on the football team for Coach Sam McCorkle. He has experience teaching physical education, health, and history.
Valley High School Principal, Mr. Montray Thompson recommended Coach Myrthil for Dr. Chambley to present as a new hire at last week’s board meeting. Coach Myrthil was approved to serve as a new history teacher at VHS, serve as the Girl's Varsity Basketball Coach and assist in a capacity Coach Adam Hunter as an athletic director. Coach Myrthil’s experience over the last twelve years has seen him serve ashas athletic director for nine different school years at both Marengo High School and Choctaw High School.
In addition to playing on the football team while at the University of West Alabama, Coach Myrthil was on the UWA Dean’s List in 2010 and served as the President of the UWA’s Pan Hellenic Greek Council in 2008. He also served as an SGA Senator as a student representative while at UWA.and studenBeforet representative Before enrolling at The University of West Alabama, Coach Eberne Myrthil honorably served in the United States Marine Corps from 1997-2004 attaining the rank as an E5 Sergeant. He completed his training and service as a US Marine having been stationed in both Hawaii and Mississippi. Before joining the Marine Corps, Coach Eberne Myrthil attended South Plantation High School in the Broward County School District in Plantation, Florida where he graduated and enjoyed a prep career on the basketball team.
The CCSD is thrilled to have Coach Eberne Bernard Myrthil join the staff at Valley High School. He is known for his positive influence on student-athletes and developing a winning culture everywhere he has been in the past.
Congratulations to Coach Myrthil as the new Varsity Girls' Basketball Coach for the Valley High School Lady Rams! It makes for a great fit for the Myrthil family as Coach just recently relocated to Phenix City this spring where he was recently engaged to be married this fall his wife to be is Ms. Kyra Cliatt who is a teacher for the Muscogee County School District.
Coach Myrthil is ready to get to work and has already held an interest meeting planned for any rising 9th – 12th-grade student-athlete female student-athlete interested in joining the Lady Rams Basketball program.
