Eleven Local Veterans Honored In Quilts Of Valor Ceremony


WEST POINT- On Saturday, eleven local veterans were recognized in February's Quilts Of Valor ceremony from SewingMachine.com in downtown West Point. Nine of those were in attendance. Those veterans include the following:


Jeanine Gilmor USAF

Matthue Gilmor Navy

Chris Morgan Army

Gregory Sandell Army

Freddie Lighty Jr. Army

Matthew Ledbetter Army

Homer Harris Navy

Grant Carson Navy

Joseph Roper Army

Sidney Lanier Navy



Sidney Lanier, who served in World War II in the U.S. Navy, was surrounded by family and friends as well as the other veterans who spoke during their time in the service.




Quilts of Valor is a national, not-for-profit organization founded by Catherine Roberts in 2003 and has awarded over 275,000 quilts to veterans.


The Georgia-Alabama State Line Chapter of the Quilts of Valor hosts quilt presentations the second Saturday of every month at sewingmachine.com in downtown West Point.
