East Alabama Father Fatally Shot, Son Charged With Murder



Over the Easter weekend, Lee County Sheriff Deputies responded to the Beulah community in reference to a Fatal shooting. The Lee County Sheriff's Department issued the following press release on Monday regarding the incident:


"On the night of April 15th, 2022, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 7000 block of Lee Rd. 279 in the Beulah community in reference to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies observed a male subject, identified as James Worthy (60), laying in the yard of his residence. He appeared to have been shot multiple times. Deputies attempted to perform lifesaving measures but were unable to revive the victim. Evidence at the scene indicated that the victim’s son, James Matthew Worthy (33) of Opelika, was engaged in an argument with his father. At some point, Worthy obtained a handgun from his vehicle and shot his father. James Matthew Worthy was on the scene and was immediately taken into custody", said the LCSO in a release to local media.

Worthy was arrested and charged with Murder. He is being held in the Lee County jail on a $150,000.00 bond.
