Lanett's Casner Named Interim Police Chief

LANETT- On Monday, Lanett Mayor Jamie Heard with the full support of the council appointed Patrol Commander Capt. Richard Casner as Interim Police Chief before Lanett Police Chief Johnny Wood's retirement at the end of the month on July 29th.

Casner has been with the Lanett Police Department for 12 years and has been there his whole career. Casner, who was born in Reno, Nevada has been a fixture in the city of Lanett and a vital part of the Lanett Police Department.

More news from Monday's Lanett's Council meeting as the council passed a Memorandum of Understanding for Lanett City Schools to hire additional school resource officers. Chief Wood explained in detail to the council the reason for the measure.

The council unanimously approved the Memorandum of Understanding, something this reporter is 100 percent in favor of.
