LEGACY ACRES ANNUAL PLANT SALE

Sory by David Bell with Chambers County School District

LAFAYETTE – The greenhouse at Legacy Acres on the campus of Inspire Academy in LaFayette is filled to the brim with beautiful plants that will go on sale to the public beginning Monday, March 14, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until noon Central Time, Monday through Friday. Grown by AgriScience students and Future Farmers of America members, this year’s inventory is larger and features a wider selection to choose from.

Flowering hanging baskets, which sell for $10 each, include Geraniums in red, salmon chic, pink, and lavender; Yellow Petchoa, a hybrid cross similar to trailing petunias; Million Bells (NOA Sunset); and Rose Purslane.

Varieties of foliage hanging baskets include Wandering Jew, Variegated Spider Plants, Trailing Sedum, Red Stemmed Pilea, and Swedish Ivy for $7 each.

A new item this year is Boston Ferns, which are available for $12 each.

Vegetable six-pack transplants include your choice of Bell Pepper, Jumbo Jalapenos, Tabasco Pepper, Sweet Banana, Habanero, Hungarian Wax Pepper, and Ghost Peppers, which look like Jalapenos and have all the flavor without the heat. Tomato varieties are Beefmaster, Better Boy, Celebrity, Sweet 100, Cherokee Purple, and Mountain Fresh, known for being a heavy producer that tolerates cool temperatures. The vegetable six-pack transplants sell for $3 each.

Six-pack containers of bedding plants include Zinnia Profusion, Marigolds in orange, yellow, and tiger-eye, and Coleus, which also sell for $3 each.

Inventory is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. All proceeds benefit future projects conducted by AgriScience students and Future Farmers of America.
