Johnson-Brown announces the passing of Mr. Ed Davis, age 96. of Valley, Alabama passed away on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Davis was born on September 12th, 1925 in Hamburg, Alabama to the late Ed R. Davis, Sr., and Ruby Jones Davis. He was a member of the Shawmut United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy in the Pacific theater on the USS Missouri.
He was a Sub District Manager for Alabama Power for 38 years. He was a former wrestler for Auburn University who started wrestling programs at Enterprise High School, Valley High School, and Springwood School. Known affectionately as “Mr. Ed” he umpired baseball games throughout the Valley area for many years. He was very active in the community, serving on the board of Lanier Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, working with the Chamber of Commerce where he was a past President, was an avid member of the Jaycees, serving a term as State President, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a volunteer at Calloway Gardens. He had a lifelong hobby of building and flying model airplanes.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ann M. Davis; children, Deborah Ann Davis, Kay D. (Tom) Perryman, Ed R. (Dolly) Davis, III, and Mike (Re) Davis; grandchildren, Greg D. Rice, Ginger R. (Erik) Lubinger, Jill R. (Michael) Turner, Ed R. Davis, IV, Calli (Chris) Gagnon, Jena (Ryan) Hudmon, Jade (Blake) Hudmon, and Hannah Davis; great-grandchildren, Lilli, Ellison, Keller, Karson, Reese, Max, John Lawrence, Caty-Mae, Jack, Addisyn, Karsen, and Ryker; brother, Henry Taylor (Barbara) Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10th, 2022 at 10:00 AM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 PM (EST) at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Alabama. Pastor Gerald Carnes will officiate. Mr. Davis’ family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Johnson-Brown also announces the passing of Mr. Charles Rush Hall, age 90, of Valley, Alabama passed away on March 4th, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Hall was born on September 1st, 1931, in Shawmut to the late Rush Hall and Thelma Moore Hall of Shawmut. He was a lifelong resident of Valley, Alabama (Shawmut).
He proudly served in the US Army as a staff sergeant during the Korean War where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He worked for West Point Pepperell’s Shawmut Mill for over 48 years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lanett until his illness. He served His Lord as deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, training union director, men’s brotherhood president, and Carpenters for Christ.
He loved his Shawmut community. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball for many years. His activities included serving as a Boy Scout leader, helping establish the Shawmut School Reunion, and Bobby’s Backyard Brotherhood. He was a Stewmaster and helped at David’s BBQ. He also started his own bible study at home. He is known for entertaining churches and clubs with his dancing dolls. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Glenella Fetner Hall; his daughters, Sheena (Tommy) Siggers of Valley and Wendy (Art) Knight of Knoxville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Jonathan (Ashleigh) Siggers, Tinsley (Dustin) Harrison, Ruthie Knight, Arthur “Little Art” Knight, Adie Knight, Asher Knight, and Lacy Knight, all from Knoxville; his great-grandchildren, Jon David and Hallston Siggers of Knoxville; his daughter-in-law, Nanci Pike Hall; his sisters, Tommie Brown of Valley, Reita Timlin and Jane Keith of Florida along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Randal Charles Hall.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 13th, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Lanett at 2:00 PM (EST). Graveside services will follow in Shawmut Cemetery. The Reverend Ronnie Jordan and the Reverend Frank Sledge will officiate. Mr. Hall’s family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM (EST) until the service hour at the church.

Johnson-Brown also announces the passing of Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Smith, age 84, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
Mrs. Smith was born on March 7, 1938, in Shawmut, Alabama to the late Clyde Lee Owen and Annie Underwood Owen. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Clinton Smith.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Karen Sanders) Smith, Tracie (Russell) Newton; two grandchildren, Haley Newton, and Hunter (Kasi) Newton; great-grandchildren, Tanner Newton, Turner Newton, and Timber Newton; and her fur baby Bella.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawmut. She worked for the J.C. Penney Department Store in West Point, Georgia for 25 years and then went to work for the West Point Pepperell Mill Store for 25 years until her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. EST at the Happy Valley Baptist Church with the Reverend John Samanie and the Reverend Gordon Beal officiating. Her family will be receiving friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. EST until the service hour.

Jeff Jones Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. Phillip Burke 78 of LaFayette, Alabama died Friday, March 4, 2022, at the EAMC Lanier Hospital.
Phillip was born in West Point, Georgia October 19, 1943, to the late Kelly Paul Burke and the late Leona Bruce Burke. He attended the Center Baptist Church in Ridge Grove and retired as a dispatcher with the Chambers County 911 Center after 15 years of service.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 11, 2022, at 2 PM (CT) 3 PM (ET) at the Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, Alabama with the Rev. David Bradshaw and Mr. Tim Bunn officiating.
The family will greet friends at the cemetery from 1 PM (CT) to 2 PM (ET) prior to the graveside service.
He is survived by his Sister Rita Millennia of Lanett, Al., Brother Carl Franklin (Jeannie) Burke of Pine Mountain, Ga., Nephews Paul Jeremy Burke of Pint Mountain, Ga., Jason Ray Burke of LaGrange, Ga.,
