Good morning y’all, and now a little news to get you up and going. weather-wise, Hurricane Ian has made landfall on the western coast of Florida as expected, but impacts local remain limited to breezy conditions. Winds may gust 20-30 mph now through Saturday, but no rain is expected in our area as the outer rain bands of Ian will remain well to our north and east. We will look for highs to stay in the mid to upper 70s through the weekend with a mix of clouds and sunshine through Sunday.

Ureka Tramble, age 29 of Lanett, AL was charged with Obstructing Governmental Operations, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest

Nadia Demetria Fears, age 25 of Lagrange, GA was charged with Theft of Property 4th and Identity Theft

Walter Bernard Carlisle, age 47 of Lanett, AL was charged with Failure to Pay for Criminal Mischief 2nd


Lanett Police also reported the following incidents:


Identity Theft and Theft of Property 4th were reported in the 1100 block of S Gilmer Ave.

Assault 3rd was reported in the 3500 block of 39th Ave. SW.

Burglary 3rd and Theft of Property 3rd were reported in the 400 block of S 4th Ave.

Theft of Property 3rd and Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle were reported at the Welcome Center mile marker 78

Edward Robert Olko, Jr., 56, a resident of Lanett, AL passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 3:00 PM EST from Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Robbie Nelson officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM EST at the funeral home.


Survivors include his wife, Laurie Mills Olko; father, Edward Robert Olko, Sr.; son, Joseph Robert Olko (Emily); step-son: Austin Peters; grandchildren, Evelyn & Elijah Olko & Tyler Peters; two brothers, Kenneth James Olko (Angie) & Mark Allen Olko (Katina); nieces and nephews, Cody Key, Tyler Key, Jessie Olko, Anthony O’Neal, Shelby DeLoach, & Shiann Olko and sister-in-law, Lezlie Bryan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Olko.

Mr. Olko was born in Utica, NY on October 12, 1965. He loved working with his hands and doing yard work. He was a huge Alabama football fan and loved his family very much.

Mrs. Veronica Elaine Jones Harville, a resident of Peachtree City, GA., and former resident of Valley, AL, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Fayetteville, GA.


Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. (EST) from Rehoboth Baptist Church, 216 Huguley Road, Valley, AL 36854 with Pastor Karanja Story, Officiant, and Rev. Anthony Shealey, Eulogist. Masks are required.

Veronica leaves an abundance of memories to be cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by: her husband, Ervin J. Mr. Miller is survived by his sisters, Geraldine Walker and Zella Mae Miller, and his brother, Eddie Miller, all of Lanett, AL, a close friend, Macilla Goodwin, one stepdaughter, Armiee Dawson, two step-granddaughters, MaKayla Dawson and Sakera Dozier, one step-grandson, Chezzy Williams, Jr., three aunts, Jessie Hutchinson, Betty Sanders, and Lizzie Scroggins, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
