Johnson Brown announces the passing of the following:
Mr. Griggs Richardson, age 94, of Lanett, Alabama passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 4th, 2022. He was born on September 1st, 1927, in Wedowee, Alabama to the late Willie and Margie Richardson.
Griggs is survived by his wife of 72 years, Erma Lee Smallwood Richardson; one son, Wendell (Becky) Richardson of Opelika, Alabama; one granddaughter, Ashley Parmer of LaGrange, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Parker Knowles and Hadley Parmer of LaGrange, Georgia; and one sister, Evelyn Cobb of West Point, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Richardson; two brothers, Swann and Hershel Richardson; and four sisters, Judy Hand, Nan Adcock, Myrtle Sides, and Ella Richardson.
Griggs retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service as a Master Sergeant, having enlisted during the Korean conflict and later becoming a veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon retirement, he began a second career with West Point Pepperell. He started as a shift supervisor and retired 20 years later as the Plant Manager of the Lantuck facility in Lanett.
He served as Sunday School Superintendent of Faith Evangelistic Church in Valley, Alabama, where he made the Lord his Savior and was baptized. He later became a member of the First Baptist Church of Lanett.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the VA in Tuskegee as well as the VA Homebased Care Team, Chattahoochee Hospice, Home Instead Opelika, caregivers Anna, Darrell, and Sheridan, and others for their compassionate care over the past year.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 7th, at the graveside in Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery in Lanett with the Reverend Rusty Letson officiating.

Public Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm CST. at Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette, AL.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 11:00 am CST at Canaan Baptist Church in Roanoke (Welch Community), AL, Rev. Calvin Trammell, Pastor/Officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
