Johnson Brown Funeral Home announces the passing of Mrs. Dana Jean Ray Johnson, age 72, of Valley, Alabama who passed away on Monday, April 11th, 2022 at her residence.


Dana was born on July 7th, 1949 in Langdale, Alabama. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Riverview. She worked for West Point Pepperell for over 30 years at the Riverview and Fairfax Mills and later at Briggs and Stratton in Opelika, Alabama.


Dana is survived by her husband, Jackie Lamar Johnson; son, Chris Martin; sister, Iris Downs; brothers, Guy Ray, Jr. and Frank Ray; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.


She was preceded in death by her mother, Johnnie Pearl Ray; and her son, Paul Martin.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15th, 2022 at 2:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. The Reverend Rusty Letson will officiate. Dana’s family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1:00 PM (EST) until the service hour at the funeral home.

Johnson-Brown also announces the passing of the following:


James Alan Kelley “Jamie”, age 64, of Langdale, AL passed away on April 10th, 2022.


Jamie was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church in Lanett, AL. He loved leading the choir on Sunday mornings and helping teach the youth about our Lord and Savior. Jamie retired from West Point Pepperell as a Machinist in Fairview Mill. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and loving wife. He spent a lot of time riding motorcycles with his wife and brother. He also liked painting rocks with gospel verses on them and hiding them along the trail in Langdale so the kids would find them.


Jamie is preceded in death by his parents James G. and Lavara Kelley, and his sister Jeri Black.


He is survived by his wife of 41 years Deborah “Debbie” McDonald Kelley; two kids, Clayton Alan Kelley and Lindsay Jeri Kelley; brother Robert (Robbie) Kelley; and countless nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14th, 2022 at 2:00 PM (EST) at Sunset Heights Baptist Church in Lanett, AL. Pastor Chuck Goodwin will officiate. Following church services, there will be a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EST).


The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Chattahoochee Hospice for their wonderful care during this trying time.

Mr. Thomas Heflin Askew, Jr. 73, a resident of Lanett, AL passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at his residence. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 2:00 PM EST from Johnson Memorial Gardens in Valley, AL with Rev. Derrick Rutledge officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -1:45 PM EST Wednesday at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.


Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hester Askew; children, Thomas H. Askew, III (Shelby) & Brandi Askew Quinton; two sisters, Barbara Rains (Bob) & Vicky Walden (Lamar); five grandchildren, Harlie Alls (Kirby), Jaime Quinton, Dallas Quinton, Adelaide Askew, & Hayden Quinton; four great-grandchildren, Rowynn Alls, Jackson Alls, Stella Quinton, & Stevie Alls.

Mr. Askew was preceded in death by his parents, Doris & Thomas Heflin Askew, Sr., and two sisters, Connie Shelnutt and Joan Tingle.


Mr. Askew was born in West Point, GA on August 12, 1948. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
