Johnson Brown Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. Hulon Ray Carlisle, age 87, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
Mr. Carlisle was born on December 16th, 1934 in Randolph County, Alabama. He was a member and a Deacon of Osanippa Baptist Church and also served as the church pianist. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps (retired). He was a big Roll Tide and Atlanta Braves fan who enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.
Mr. Carlisle is survived by his wife of 61 years, Opal Carlisle; daughter-in-law, Sabrina Carlisle; grandchildren, Jarred Carlisle, Samantha Carlisle, Macy Meigs, and Katie Meigs; great-grandchildren, Lexi Chambers, Sydney Carlisle, McKensey Johnson, Emma Carlisle, Landon Gross, and Mason Meigs; sisters, Anna Mae Hollis and Jeanette Eden; a host of nieces, nephews, and. in-laws. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Carlisle.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 25th, 2022.

Lynda Susan Arrington Eller, age 75, a resident of Lanett, AL, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, peacefully in Columbus Hospice from a stroke. She was born January 8, 1947 in West Point GA to the late Edward Lee Arrington (E.L.) and Lynda Claire Bradfield Arrington of Lanett, AL.
Lynda, an only child, was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Donald Arthur Eller, son, Donald Arthur Eller, Jr. and daughter, Susan Lillian Eller. She is survived by a 1stcousin, John Edward Arrington and family, Kathrine D. Arrington and Martha Elizabeth Arrington; several 2nd& 3rdCook cousins; and one Bradfield uncle, numerous distant Bradfield cousins and their families.
As a young teenager she got interested in horses from her father and uncle (Roy Lee Arrington) who had Palomino horses in La Grange, GA. Her interest grew from riding to showing them along with her cousin. In 1959 she acquired her own horse, Surf’s Golden Suntan, a year-old Palomino colt which she trained and exhibited for almost 3 years in West Georgia and East Alabama local & regional horse shows from Columbus, GA to Wedowee, AL. She and ‘Salty’ (as Surf’s was known) placed in almost all classes (including halter, parade, Palomino & western) they entered and took many First-Place trophies.
She graduated from Lanett High School in 1965. Following graduation, she was employed by F.W. Woolworth in West Point.
She met her future husband by listening to her father’s police CB radio. When ask why she chose him, she replied that he sounded more interesting than the local boys, he was from out of town. They were married August 7, 1966, in the First Baptist Church, Lanett. Due to her husband’s employment, she traveled in all 50 states up to 1977 and lived in 42 states. During these years she found consistent employment in the retail industry.
Upon retirement they returned to Lanett and opened a print shop and publishing house. She found employment with Walmart in the Valley and worked there in many capacities until she retired April 2008 after 25 years of valued service as a Walmart Associate.
Growing up, her grandmother, Hettie Bennett Arrington, lived with the family and told Lynda many true tales of growing up in Heard Co. Lynda’s interest was renewed when she found her grandfather’s old black lunch pail while cleaning the attic. In it was an old land grant signed by President Zachary Taylor and addressed to the first school teacher in Cherokee County. Lynda’s interest blossomed in 1976 while living in Virginia. She frequented the Library of Congress and other major and minor libraries in Virginia.
Once retiredshe was further inspired by construction of a family tree to visit the family origin’s locations and cemeteries in Heard County, and the GA State Archives. Taking her husband’s suggestion that she utilize her research and organizational skills and abilities to preserve local family histories, she put the information she collected into narrative format.
As the Heard County GA Historian, she created the ANCESTOR FILES “A Meeting place of cousins.” It contained files on everyone that had appeared in the Heard Co. censuses from 1840 to 1900. She ask for and collected information from people across the United States about their Heard Co. ancestors.
Over a period of time, she and her husband established and operated the following entities: Ancestor Files Genealogical Library Genealogical-Historical research Center, Lynda Eller Director; Eller’s Instant Print, Don & Lynda Eller, Owners; Cedarland Enterprises, Don & Lynda Eller, Owners.
This led to the compilation and publication of 10 books, including “Heard County, Georgia: A History of its People”, censuses from the 1800’s and cemeteries of local counties. During this time, she edited and published 2 editions annually of “Heard Heritage” beginning with Vol. 1 May 1976 through Vol. 17 November 1992; and “Randolph Pioneers” from a Premier Issue dated June 1981 to Vol. 8 August 1989. She became well known as a genealogist and historian in Heard and Troup Counties, GA and Randolph and Chambers Counties, AL.
As a result of her work and publications she was contacted by people throughout the United States who had a family connection to one of the 4 counties for genealogical and historical information. She set up a room filled from floor to ceiling with folders full of correspondence and research information in response to their inquiries. In addition, she created another room full of historical and genealogical reference books, pamphlets and publications of local Historical societies for use by visitors seeking family genealogical and historical information. She also adapted to technology, becoming involved with several internet sites specializing in genealogical data.
She was a regular member of the Chattahoochee Valley Historical Society, and a member/contributor to the Heard County Historical Society. She and her husband also attended and participated in local, state, and national printing and Genealogical/Historical conferences.
To expand her professional skills, in 1974 she earned a Certificate of Completion from Snead State Junior College for the college’s Beginning Course in Genealogy
.
Lynda learned from her father who was a finish carpenter at one time; math, measurement, and house plan knowledge and skills. She drew the interior of countless mobile home and house plans, including window and door locations, electrical outlets & fixtures, and built-in and furniture placements, to scale and complete with measurements to the fraction of an inch. In addition, she had an artistic flair, doing chalk drawings of women from the 60’s & ‘70’s and landscape features.
Lynda’s interest also included animals. She cared for many cats at their compound in Huguley, some of whom adopted her. She was also passionate about the environment, collecting and making scrapbooks of good environmental practices and subscribing to nature magazines.
Private Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, AL. Columbus Hospice Chaplain Greg Harrison officiated. Interment followed without a Graveside Service in the Arrington plot (799) of the old section, Oakwood Cemetery, 1462 First St. Lanett, AL 36863.

Mr. William Jerry Vaughn, age 75, of Huguley, Alabama passed away on Friday, June 24th, 2022 at Diversicare of Lanett.
Mr. Vaughn was born on August 3rd, 1946 in Wedowee, Alabama to the late Will D. Vaughn and Sarah Vaughn. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of Fredonia Community Holiness Church. He was a hard working man with an infectious smile and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, and reading history. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his wife and in his later years greatly enjoyed taking trips with her. He was an employee of West Point Stevens for 37 years and then worked at Walmart in Valley for 12 years.
Mr. Vaughn accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. He lived his faith and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was definitely a praying man. Over the years he composed several gospel songs. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Mr. Vaughn is survived by his wife of 51 years that he married on May 28th, 1971, Angie Vaughn; his daughter, Allecia Nicole McFarland (Jon) of Knoxville, TN; the girl who he referred to as “he and Angie’s” firstborn, Jennifer McClian Ervin of Huguley, AL; two granddaughters whom he adored, Eleanora Vaughn McFarland and Vivian Elise McFarland, both of Knoxville, TN; his godson, Parker White of Lanett, AL; his siblings, Donald Vaughn, Helen Vaughn, Ruby Vaughn, Elsie Adamson, Rosa Lee Brown, Kathryn Wortham (Roy), Sylvia Creed (Ronnie) all of Wedowee, AL, Marie Waldrep (Gary) of Roanoke, AL, Martha Newman (Mark) of Oxford, AL, brother in law, Mike Rice; many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Lynn Vaughn; sister, Carrie Lee Rice; father in law, Willie Foster; mother in law, Alma Foster.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1st, 2022 at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Virginia Allene Jacobs Tynes passed away peacefully in her home in Birmingham, AL on June 26, 2022 following a brief illness. She was born to George William Jacobs and Margaret Avis Freeman Jacobs in West Point, GA on November 8, 1936.
She graduated from West Point High School in 1954, where she was a cheerleader and vice-president and salutatorian of her graduating class. During her senior year, she went on a blind date with Hubbard Armstrong Tynes, an Auburn mechanical engineering student from Birmingham, AL. They discovered that they both loved tennis, waterskiing and quail, dove and duck hunting. She loved riding horses and he loved racing and collecting motorcycles. She attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA and he graduated from Auburn. They became engaged and were married on May 13, 1955 in the First Baptist Church of West Point. They were married for 37 years until Hubbard’s passing in 1992. Together they raised 3 children and as a family enjoyed all those interests that originally drew them together. She supported their family as a homemaker and managed the active school and athletic schedules of their children. She chaired and co-chaired fundraisers for the private school they attended. She and Hubbard played in many doubles and mixed doubles club championship tennis matches and taught dozens of friends and relatives to water ski.
She was always an active member of her church and during her lifetime spent in West Point and Birmingham, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, West Point Presbyterian Church, The Church of the Resurrection (West Point) and currently, of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Homewood. She was an accomplished pianist and seamstress in her younger years. Throughout her life, she was an avid gardener and reader and was a member of garden and study clubs in both West Point and Birmingham. She loved working as a volunteer at Grandview Medical Center since its opening and was thankful to its team of physicians and staff who cared for her in her final illness. She inspired her family, friends and medical providers with her graciousness, her courage and her confident faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her brother, George William Jacobs, Jr. (Sherralyn) of West Point, GA, her children, Thomas Hubbard Tynes (Karen) of Mountain Brook, AL, Lynn Armstrong Tynes Nickoley (Ross) of Georgetown, TN and Nancy Jacobs Tynes Peterman (Mark) of Chesterfield, MO. She was adored by her grandchildren, Amanda Tynes Nickoley Griffin (Alvin Daniel Griffin, SSgt USAF), Austin Armstrong Tynes, Franklin Alan Nickoley (Chandler), Samuel Ryan Peterman (Emily), Dr. Jordan Marie Tynes (fiancé Joshua) and Ashley Grace Peterman. She loved her 3 great-grandchildren, Alvin Ryan Griffin, Colten Daniel Griffin and Michael Fischer Nickoley.
Visitation will be held at Bluffton Funeral Services in West Point, GA on Sunday, July 10 from 2 – 4 PM EDT followed by a graveside service at Marseilles Cemetery at 4:30 PM EDT.

Bradford Lee Adams,65, of Fredonia, Alabama passed away June 22, 2022. Mr. Adams was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 4, 1957 and spent his childhood there.
He is preceded in death by his father, Horace Adams, his mother Mary Bradford Adams and his brother, Michael Horace Adams.
Survivors include; wife, Linda Adams, stepson, Jeremiah Cannon(Kaylan) and two grandchildren (Jameson and Ashlynn). Two sisters; Patsy(Carl) Kendrix and Kathy (John) Colbert. Brad had many cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Brad and Linda lived in Fredonia, Alabama for 30 years. They were members of Fredonia United Methodist Church. Brad loved the outdoors and going to Panama City Beach. He loved people and was always ready to help anyone.
Burial service for Brad will be held July 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM EST at the Adams Family Cemetery located on County Road 222 in Lanett, Alabama directly across from house #3187.
