Aquaious A'Kemin Barker, 20, of Lafayette, AL was arrested for Failure to Appear - Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree and License to Carry a Pistol Required

Cal Maurice McFarlin, 25, of Roanoke, AL was arrested for Failure to Appear - Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance

Archer Clyde Lockhart, 50, of Cusseta, AL was arrested for Kidnapping 1st Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Domestic Violence 3rd Degree - Menacing

Roscoe Louis Holloway, 58, of Roanoke, AL was arrested for Theft of Property 1st Degree

Marcus Demond Mayfiled, 49, of Valley, AL was arrested for Failure to Pay Child Support

From Lanett, Police reported the following incidents:


Theft of Property 3rd was reported in the 1200 block of N 13th Ave.

Domestic Violence 2nd Criminal Mischief was reported in the 600 block of Cherry Dr.

Archer Clyde Lockhart, no age or residence reported, was arrested for Obstruction of Governmental Operations and Reckless Endangerment.

Theft of Property 1st Degree was reported in the 100 Block of Woodland Avenue.



Theft of Property 2nd Degree was reported in the 1100 Block of County Road 522.

Johnson Brown announces the passing of the following:


United States Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) Roger Garner, age 72, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.


He was born in West Point, Georgia on September 9, 1949, to the late Manuel Garner and Frances Garner. He was also preceded in death by his loving companion “Tia Marie”.


Chief Warrant Officer 4 Roger Garner spent his life and career serving in the United States Military. He served in the United States Marine Corps and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he spent the remainder of his career achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4.


He served over 24 years as a combat engineer and command instructor pilot qualified to operate and train in six different types of planes and helicopters. He served across the globe including time in Singapore, Frankfurt, Germany, Cairo, Egypt, and Honolulu, HI. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the Legion of Merit among other awards and declarations including the Purple Heart and Broken Wing Medal. He also was awarded the Air Assault Wings Medal for completion of Air Assault School and he was a Master Aviator with over 3700 logged flight hours.


He is survived by his wife, Jane Garner, Valley; children, Jamie Dawn Garner, West Point, Georgia, Keith Garner, Valley; grandchildren, Morgan and Jeremiah Garner, Oregon; his devoted cat “Lil Bit”.


He was an avid University of Alabama football fan, he loved hunting and fishing in his younger years, and enjoyed feeding his birds, and working on his lawn.


Graveside services with military honors will be conducted on Friday, August 5, 2022. at 11:00 A.M. EDT at the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. No visitation is planned at this time.

Mr. Gene Pike, age 80, of West Point, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 14th, 2022 in LaGrange, Georgia.


Gene was born on February 9th, 1942 in LaGrange to the late Andrew Howard and Lillie May Pike. He was a member of Davidson Baptist Church. He was a man of God who enjoyed helping others and working at his church. He was a very athletic man who, up until several years ago, ran 10 miles a day and worked out regularly.


He loved dancing with his wife and in years past, roller skating with his children. He was a good and loving husband, father, and grandfather.


Gene is survived by his wife, Faye Pike; children, Stacey Towler (Ben), Jonathan Johnson (Corrina); Kim Andrews, and Shannon Hand; grandchildren, Lexie, Cole, Nathan, Austin, and Lindsey; sister, Carolyn Hewett, all of his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Pike Darden.


Memorial services for Gene will be announced at a later date.

Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home announces the passing of Ms. Janice Ballard, 52 of Valley, AL. passed away on, July 28, 2022, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.


Public Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. CST until 6:00 p.m. CST, at Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette, AL.


Graveside Services will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. CST, at Essie J. Handy Memorial Cemetery in LaFayette, AL, with Pastor Rodney Thomas, Officiating.


Ms. Ballard leaves to cherish her memories three children, Cornelius L. Wright, Lazaria S. Carr, and Latavious Ricks Ballard all of Valley, AL; one stepdaughter, Nekoshia Reed of Beulah, AL; three sisters, Zola Daniel of LaFayette, AL, Barbara Griffith of Decatur, GA, and Susie (Orlando) Taylor of Camp Hill, AL; one brother, Calvin H. Ballard of Atlanta, GA; one step-grandson, Jaquavious Reed; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Vines Funeral Home Chapel, LaFayette at 12:00 p.m. (CST) with Rev. Quinderus Jones officiating. Mr. Holley is survived by his devoted wife: Wynetta Finley Holley, LaFayette; four step children: Sophia Finley and Phycilica Finley both of LaFayette, Tobin K. Freddie) Robinson and Virginia A.
