Mrs. Jeanette B. (Bohannon) Tilley Obituary



Mrs. Jeanette Tilley, age 84, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Diversicare in Lanett, Alabama.


Jeanette was born on June 19, 1938, in Carrollton, Georgia to the late Homer Bohannon and Nellie Lester Parsons. Jeanette was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Bryson Avery Tilley, daughter, Deborah Lowery, sister, Janice Bleier, and a granddaughter, Brandi Clifton.


Jeanette was affectionately known as “Maw Maw” to many, “Aunt Nat” to her nieces and nephews, and “Miss Jeanette” to those in the church.


She was a lady who never met a stranger. She was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church for 39 years. During that time she served as a 2nd grade Sunday School teacher for over 30 years, a member of the Happy Citizens group, the WMU group, and the baptism committee for several years. Jeanette was also on the kitchen – benevolence committee, always lending a hand wherever it was needed. She loved working and serving her church and the Lord, Jesus Christ.


Jeanette is survived by a son, Greg (Wynette) Tilley, a daughter, Kathy Nelson, and a son, Randy Tilley. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brian (Gail) Clifton, Scott Clifton, Amanda Hall, Crystal (David) Smith, Kevin Nelson, Nikki Washington, Leigh (Clayton) Garner, and Jennifer (Vicente) Jimenez; 21 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 202211:00 A.M. at Happy Valley Baptist Church at10:00 A.M. 11:00 A.M. EDT with interment following in Hillcrest Cemetery. The Reverend John Samanie and the Reverend Floyd Aikens officiating. Visitation will be Friday morning at the church from 10:00 A.M. EDT until the service hour.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to Diversicare Nursing Home in Lanett, the nurses, and staff who took such very good care of Jeanette for the last 2.5 years of her life. She was surrounded by many nurses and friends that loved her with a heart of gold.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Happy Valley Baptist Church.
