Nearly 3,000 Attend Opening Day Of Merry-Go-Round

Updated: Nov 29, 2022

LANGDALE- On Sunday, the lines are flooded by those waiting in line to ride the Merry-Go-Round as a big portion of the Valley got in the spirit, even Santa himself was feeling jolley and took photos with those being nice, or even perhaps naughty. Regardless, the City of Valley officially kicked off the season in grand fashion.

"This was been a great day. We had perfect weather, and we could not have asked for a better day. We have had a steady crowd, and everyone is ready to ride, and we will be open all the way through Christmas Eve unless it's raining", said Valley Parks and Recreation Director Laurie Blount.

The Merry-Go-Round has been a Christmas Tradition for over 65 years. Originating as a gift from the textile mills, it has defined the community spirit, which has been passed down from generation to generation. Yes, the mills are long gone, but the gift from those historical days is still here thanks to the City of Valley's commitment to the area.

Today the Merry-Go-Round is rented from Richard Tinsley and Tinsley’s Amusements in High Hill, Missouri.

Last month, the City Of Valley announced that grants totaling $10,400 were allocated for the Merry-Go-Round through District 38 Alabama House Representative Debbie Wood, and, the Alabama Tourism Department for Legislative Tourism Grants.

The 2022 Merry-Go-Round will run through Friday, December 16th, Monday-Friday from 5-9 pm EST., Saturday, 10 am-9 pm EST., and Sunday 1-5 pm EST.

Then again on Saturday, December 17th through December 23rd, Monday-Saturday from 10 am- 9 pm EST., and on Sunday 1-5 pm EST.
