Rebels Fall Short To Clarke Prep 24-21; Season Comes To A Disappointing End

LAFAYETTE- On Friday, Chambers Academy's comeback effort came up just a bit short as the Rebels lost to Clarke Prep 24-21, and with it, their season came to a close.

Down 24-14 headed into the 4th, Chambers Academy's Luke Tarver cut the lead into single digits with a Rushing touchdown. The Rebels then recovered a Clarke Prep fumble in the Gator's territory. Unfortunately, Chambers Academy could not capitalize and was stopped on 4th down.

The Rebels were once again led by their potent run game. Chambers Academy ran for 438 yards. Senior Braxton Yerta led the Rebels with 187 yards on nine carries while Sophomore Luke Tarver ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns on seventeen carries.

"Real proud of our guys and the way we fought til the end. It just felt like we were playing uphill all night and just didn’t finish. We had our opportunities but couldn’t cash in on multiple occasions.

To rush for 400-plus yards with no turnovers and not win is hard to swallow. We gave up the kickoff return for a touchdown and a couple of long passes hurt. It just wasn’t our night for some reason.

I’m proud of this senior class for rebounding the way they did after a 0-2 start and putting us in the position they did", said Chambers Academy Head Football Coach Jason Allen.

The future is bright at Chambers Academy, and you can bet that Allen will have his Rebels ready to compete for another State Championship.

As for Clarke Prep, the Gators now travel to Patrician Academy on Thursday as they will encounter a Saints squad coming off a 42-14 win over Edgewood Academy in the second round of the AISA playoffs.
