Ronald Stephen "Steve" Akins Obituary

Mr. Ronald Stephen “Steve” Akins, age 56, of Opelika, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021, at his residence. He was born to Jimmy Ray Akins and Janice Bailey on April 25th, 1965, in Chambers County, Alabama.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Bailey, and sister, Glenda Tucker.

He is survived by his son, Christopher R. Akins of Texas; two grandchildren; father and mother, Jimmy Ray and Ethel Akins of Valley, Alabama; brothers, Terry Hamby (Cindy) and Jerry Hamby (Beverly), both of Valley; sisters, Shaunda McLeod (Greg) of Bluffton, Georgia, Dana Dunn and Michelle Sanders (Aaron), both of Valley, and Linda Holt (Mickey) of Beulah, Alabama; a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lots of friends he called family.

Steve was a member of the Lanett Church of the Nazarene. He grew up in the Valley and Lanett communities and then moved to Texas and Kansas for several years before returning to Beulah to live out his remaining time. He was one of a kind with a big heart. He was called “Uncle Steve” by his nieces and nephews and their friends. He loved Alabama football, his Bronco, his dogs, and he loved to hang out with his friends and family on the “Crazy Train” of Life. There will never be another “Unstable Steve”. If you had the pleasure of meeting him and he liked you, well you were loved, and you will feel his absence.

Remember Me

Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow,

but remember me in every tomorrow.

Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles,

I’ve only gone to rest a little while.

Although my leaving causes pain and grief,

My going has eased my hurt,

And given me relief.

So dry your eyes and remember me,

not as I am now, but as I used to be.

Because I will remember you all,

And look on with a smile.

Understand in your hearts,

I’ve only gone to rest a little while.

As long as I have the love of each of you,

I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.

Joey Beighley
