Springwood School Announces the Hire of Head of School

The Chattahoochee Valley Educational Foundation Board of Trustees is pleased to introduce Springwood School’s new Head of School, Dr. Kimberly Baylis, effective May 23, 2022. Dr. Baylis currently serves as the Director of Academics for Springwood’s K4-12 program and has been working closely and effectively with teachers, staff, and families over the past year. We are confident her experience on our campus, combined with 17 years of independent-school educational work in Trumbull, Connecticut and abroad, will set Springwood on a continued course of excellence. Dr. Baylis is passionate about forwarding Springwood’s mission to provide a quality education in a nurturing environment, focusing on the whole person - mind, body, and spirit.

Dr. Baylis commented, “Over the past year I have developed a deep respect for the commitment of the Springwood faculty and staff to serve students and their families; teachers choose to be here because they want to pour into the lives of students and see them realize their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. One of the best things about a K4-12 independent school like Springwood School is that we have the privilege to invest in students throughout all stages of their childhood through adolescence, thus providing continuity in their learning experiences. I also love that our beautiful campus, though nestled in our small community, draws families from many towns -- and different countries! -- resulting in unique opportunities for our students.”

Dr. Baylis graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Throughout her studies, Dr. Baylis has earned a Master of Religious Education, an Education Specialist Degree and a Doctorate in Education. As a young college graduate, Dr. Baylis moved to Debrecen, Hungary, to teach English. She would later benefit from her experience overseas when she served as the International Program Coordinator at an independent school in Connecticut. She later became Upper School Principal, which involved several iterations of the position including chairing the English Department, developing a Writing Center Program, building new curriculums, offering both College and Academic Counseling, and mentoring teachers. In her spare time,

Dr. Baylis enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling with friends, and spending time with her daughter. For over 50 years, Springwood has served the Valley area by developing students who have grown to serve their own communities as leaders and influencers for the next generation.

Please help us congratulate Dr. Baylis as we all work together to continue the excellence of independent education in our area.
