VALLEY- Last Monday, the Valley Mayor and Council unanimously approved a Resolution Authorizing the purchase of the largest tract of land left in the city of Valley for over One Million Dollars. The land is located on the left-hand side of 30th street in Shawmut and sits nearby the Chattahoochee River.
"This land is 370 acres and comes up behind the cemetery, and behind the property, the church is on. This is a really good price at One Million Three Hundred Fifty Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,350,500), and is a cash deal", said Valley Mayor Leonard Riley.
Whereas, Clovernook Land LLC, David & Mary Price Joint Trust, and Margaret Rollison, owners of the properties described in the attached Contract of Sale desire to sell the property to the City for One Million Three Hundred Fifty Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,350,500.) Upon motion duly made ad seconded it is hereby RESOLVED that the City of Valley, Alabama hereby accepts the offer of the owners to sell the property to the City for the consideration set forth above, all under the terms of the attached Contract for Sale. The Mayor is authorized to execute the contract and to take the necessary steps to perform due diligence and ultimately consummate the purchase of the property should all conditions set forth therein be met. Adapted and approved this the 27th day of June 2022.
The land can possibly be used for development in the future something that the council is very much in favor of.
District 2 Councilman Jim Jones likes the idea, but would prefer to have been told about the purchase in advance . Jones addressed Mayor Riley on the matter just before voting yes on the purchase.
Mayor Riley and the Council have stayed committed to growing even during economically challenging times. The city of Valley is moving foward, and the recent purchase of this land is proof of that.
