Upcoming Election In Troup County Is Missing Something: My Tribute To Bill Edwards

WEST POINT- As Troup County, the state of Georgia, heck even the entire country watches the midterm election, I can't help, but think about my old friend Bill Edwards, a man that the West Point community, as well as myself, will miss on Tuesday.

I first met Bill, years ago when I first started reporting on election coverage in Troup County. As a young man, who was green, and had much to learn, Edwards, gave me advice on polls and taught me how to read the tape posted on the door. To put it mildly, Bill was a mentor, and I was grateful for his friendship.

Bill Edwards, passed away peacefully on January 2nd, this year surrounded by his family, and friends. This upcoming election will be the first general election we have had without the man who was quite simply a fixture in West Point elections.

Yes, this election will be exciting. U.S. Senate and Governor's races are up for grabs. I just wish our old friend was here to report the results with me, but something tells me he will be smiling down and watching the results with me.
