Updated: Nov 7, 2022

VALLEY- Last week, former city of Valley Councilman RayEdwards spearheaded a movement to provide weather radio's to the seniors at the Valley Senior Center in a special event. Those in attendance included Ricky Price, State Senator District 13 Randy Price, Valley Mayor Leonard Riley, wife, and Chambers County Commissioner Debra Riley, fellow Chambers County Commissioner, Sam Bradford, Valley Parks & Recreation Director Laurie Blount. and Valley Pharmacy Project Manager AJ Hadaway.

Edwards, who has long been a big supporter of seniors felt compelled to do this.

"We decided to do this for the seniors, and give some top-of-the-line Midland Radios. We installed batteries and programmed them. So when bad weather comes in they just plug them in, and they are ready to go", said Edwards.

In all 150 radios were given out. 35 that night, and 115 will be given to homebound seniors this week as part of the city of Valley's meals on wheels initiative.

"We would like to stop and take a moment to thank Ray Edwards for allowing us to help and participate in this event. Mr. Ray approached us a few months back in reference to purchasing Weather Radios. We were able to get a great deal on them and secure them. This is a great project and we were glad we could be a part of it and look forward to working more with our senior center in the future", said Blount.

This one device will gift our seniors those extra minutes to relocate to a safer place in the house, and that means the world to all who hold them, dear to their hearts", added Blount.
