On Monday, West Point Police issued a press release to Gator Media regarding the arrest of a local man on multiple charges including rape, and child molestation.
"On July 31st, 2022, Officers with the West Point Police Department received information regarding suspected child molestation and statutory rape that had occurred in the City of West Point.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that John McKenzie Moosman was the alleged offender.
Detectives with the West Point Police Department spoke to Mr. Moosman via phone call and made arrangements to meet with him that day to conduct his interview.
Mr. Moosman never showed up for his interview.
After a lengthy investigation, it was determined that Mr. Moosman had fled the state and was hiding in Colorado with a family member.
With the help of the United States Marshals Service in Georgia and Colorado, we were able to talk to Mr. Moosman through a family member and he agreed to come back to Georgia and turn himself in.
On August 7th, 2022, Mr. Moosman turned himself into the West Point Police Department without incident and was charged with Statutory Rape(felony) 16-6-3 and Aggravated Child Molestation 16-6-4c", said West Point Public Information Officer Cedarious Thomas.
