Wildcats Run Wild Over Cornerstone Christian 50-8; Advances To State Championship Game

LANETT- they scored early and they scored often, the Springwood Wildcats dominated Cornerstone Christian 50-8 en route to punching their ticket to the state championship game to be held on Thursday from the Crampton Bowl in Montgomery.

The game was a bit of a revenge game for Springwood who lost to Cornerstone Christian in a shootout in the regular season to the Chargers 52-50. A game where Springwood was up big, but could not hold the lead. However, on Friday, Springwood left no doubt.

The Wildcats ran wild over Cornerstone Christian racking up 370 yards on the ground and 148 in the air for a combined 578 yards.

Springwood scored on their possession on a 48-yard Johnathan (Jon-Jon) Johnson touchdown run, and right after the Wildcats recovered an onside kick, one play later scored on an Eli Johnson Touchdown. Within a blink, Springwood was up 16-0 and never looked back.

Wildcat Senior Cayden Cook joined in on the Touchdown party just before the half to extend the lead to 30-0.

"We just came out with great energy and focus. We had a great week of practice and our kids executed the game plan just like we wanted. We go down got a quick score, and then recovered the onside kick, We started out strong and finished it. Tonight was a great win for our players and fans, " said Springwood Head Football Coach Joey Burch.

Springwood will now play Evangel Christian in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery in the 8-man State Championship on Thursday from the Crampton Bowl. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m. EST./10 am CST.
