MONTGOMERY- History made. Last week Alabama House District 38 Rep. Debbie Wood became the first woman elected to serve as Treasurer for the Republican Caucus.

"This is truly an honor and I'm so grateful, and I look forward to serving", said Wood.

"We put our hands on our Bibles and were sworn in together", added Wood. There are 77 Republican Representatives out of the 105 House members, which gives us Republicans a supermajority.

The outgoing Speaker of the House Mac McCutcheon called all Republican House members to order last Thursday, Speaker McCutcheon serves as the Speaker of the House until the House elects the next Speaker during the January 2023 organizational meetings. Since McCutcheon did not run for re-election this term in his district, McCutcheon will not be a voting member if a special session is called between now and January 10, 2023.

(These nominees are slated to be elected during the House of Representatives’ organizational meetings, which includes all Democrat and Republican House members starting January 10, 2023)
